‘Bulawanon nga Nanay’ 2024 named

The Iloilo City Government’s Task Force on Street Children (ICTSC) recognized model mothers in the “Bulawanon nga Nanay” 2024 award ceremony at Festive Walk Iloilo Indoor Atrium May 30.

Remedios Lopez, 68, of Brgy. Veterans Village City Proper was declared this year’s winner, receiving a P15,000 prize after besting 12 finalists.

Lopez said: “I had an unforgettable experience in this event, and I know that my dedication as a volunteer, barangay and daycare worker is evident. My passion and determination to instill moral values and manners in children have paid off, as some of them graduated as Summa Cum Laude, of which I am very proud, as well as being hailed as Bulawanon nga Nanay.”

“My children inspire me to strive every day because I want to set a good example for them. I will constantly show my love and concern for them by taking good care of them and providing for their needs. When times are tough, I remain strong because I believe God will always provide for my family,” she added.

Lopez said she is grateful to the City of Iloilo, Mayor Jerry Treñas and Mrs. Rosalie Sarabia-Treñas for supporting the endeavor, and City Social Welfare and CSWDO for their assistance.

“From every part of the city, we can say with pride that Ilonggo mothers are among the best in the country, if not the world. To all outstanding women and mothers, I urge you to continue to bring warmth and security into your respective homes and create a loving environment where your children can thrive,” said Mrs. Treñas, who is also ICTSFC Chairperson.

The esteemed city-wide search extended a heartfelt invitation to mothers who epitomize exceptional success in balancing multiple roles within their households and actively contributing to the welfare of the broader community.

The qualified mothers aged 45 to 75 who are bona fide city residents, possess good moral standing and strongly involved in community development. (Andrea Pearl B. Fernandez/Iloilo City PIO)
