Mandaue Children’s Choir wows Ilonggos at SM City Iloilo

The multi-awarded Mandaue Children’s Choir of Cebu brought its amazing talents to SM City Iloilo on Sunday, May 15, and it showed to us attendees why they’re worthy of international accolades.

The choir of children ages 7-16 wowed the Ilonggos who trooped to the region’s biggest mall with their angelic voices and world-class performances in a mini-concert held at the north wing expansion area.

In the first part of the program, choir director Dennis Gregory Sugarol masterfully guided the kids garbed in colorful traditional costume to beautiful renditions of Filipino folk songs, including Iloilo’s own tunes ‘Ili-ili Tulog Anay’ and ‘Dandansoy.’

I personally liked their animated delivery of ‘Leron Leron Sinta,’ which included playful dances and choreography, and another folk song (I missed the title) which they mimicked the sounds of animals. The kids were all smiles while performing, obviously enjoying every minute of it.

After a short break, Mandaue Children’s Choir came up on stage once again, now all-dressed in immaculate white attire while belting out traditional pop songs like ‘What a Wonderful World’ and ‘Tears in Heaven.’

The chorale ended the program with flawless encore performance of pop hit ‘When You Believe.’ The sizable crowd (including re-elected Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog) and everybody else in the vicinity gave them a thunderous applause and standing ovation.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog led the standing ovation for the awesome Mandaue Children’s Choir. Bravo!

Mandaue Children’s Choir has over the years reaped awards both nationally and internationally.

Most recently, it bagged the top prize in the 2015 Internationales Kinderchoir Festival in Germany and was invited as one of only six choirs around the world to the prestigious Adolf Frederik International Choir Festival in Stockholm Sweden a week later.

Cheers to these wonderful kids of Mandaue Children’s Choir who brought recognition to the Philippines through their astounding singing prowess!
