PRC extends license renewal without full CPD compliance to Dec. 2020

Professionals may still renew their license cards without earning full Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units until December 2020.

Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced that they will still accept application for renewal of Professional Identification Cards (PIC) without required CPD units for the next 2 years.

The agency posted the following advisory in it’s official website:
“Renewal of Professional Identification Cards (PIC) without full CPD Compliance are accepted until December 2020.”

PRC previously posted that renewal without full CPD compliance was only until December 2019.

In the recent statement, PRC maintains that “CPD is essential for any professional to deliver services that comply with the latest standards of quality, efficiency, safety, among others. It also ensures compliance with regulatory laws, and international commitments by professionals.”

PRC added initiatives were put in place “to address issues of affordability and accessibility. Guidelines are being prepared to standardize seminar fees, crediting of professional activities and online courses.”

Meanwhile, in the latest hearing of Senate Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization and Professional Regulation, senators urged the PRC and its Professional Regulatory Boards to review the Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) of the CPD Law.

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV chaired the committee hearing, also attended by Senators Ralph Recto, Miguel Zubiri, and Koko Pimentel.

Heeding the clamor of professionals against the measure, the lawmakers pushed for a more lenient IRR which will make the CPD requirement voluntary, except for registered professions with mandatory CPD requirement on their Professional Regulatory Law (PRL).

PRC assured the senators that they will meet with all Professional Regulatory Boards (PRBs), CPD Councils and Accredited Professional Organizations (APOs) to discuss matters concerning the CPD IRR and making its implementation voluntary.
