Teacher carries wounded student on her back out of flooded school

This teacher from Iloilo City National High School (ICNHS) went over and beyond her duty as an educator by acting more like a second mother to her handicapped student.

Ma’am Jessica Jayloni, who teaches Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) subject in ICNHS, was captured in a photo carrying her student on her back as she waded out of their flooded classroom.

The public high school along MH del Pilar Street in Molo district is always flooded during torrential rains.

Jayloni was concerned that her student, who has wound on her foot, might get infections from floodwaters.

She could’ve asked other male students or staff to do it, but she willingly did it herself. Great job, Ma’am!

The heartwarming act of Teacher Jessica has earned praises from netizens, and the photo went viral in social media garnering thousands of shares and reactions.

Southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Depression Falcon brought heavy rainfall and eventual flooding all over Iloilo City on Tuesday, July 16. This prompted City Mayor Jerry P. Trenas to suspend afternoon classes for pre-school, elementary and high school levels. (Photo by Regina Sasana Escueta)
